A Free Companionship, the Gorean form of marriage, lasts for a single
year. If it is not renewed by the twentieth Ahn of the anniversary
date, it will automatically dissolve.
A Free Companionship will one dissolve earlier than one year if one
of the parties is either enslaved or dies. Least brought before the
High Council
In a Free Companionship, the woman can take the Caste of the man
though the man cannot do the same. Otherwise to change caste, the High
Council of the city must approve the change, based on your
qualifications for the new caste and the willingness of the new caste
to accept you pending all prerequisites are met.
Entering into a free companionship can take the form of a proposal
and acceptance. The proposal then may come from either the man or the
woman. The free companionship may also be arranged by others, but the
HC must along with the Father of the Woman approve it. In fact .. A
woman, bought from her parents for tarns or gold, is still regarded as
a free companion, even though she may not have been consulted in the
transaction. Women are shown as being pledged, promised, or intended to
be free companions. Even if for political reasons, these unions would
be, by law, just as binding as a companionship based first on love.
More commendably though, the free woman would, of her own free may,
agree to be such a companion.
A Man nor Woman may have more than One FC at a given time
A woman will leave her city and go to the city of her companion for the
duration of the contract unless the Male apply for citizenship.
